The Adult Basic Education (ABE) Program at Calvary Baptist Church intends to provide comprehensive instruction to adult learners by offering them an educational experience that is innovative, based on research and firmly grounded in national standards.  The ABE Program will be structured around a large range of materials, teaching tools and techniques.  Instead of utilizing only commercially available textbooks, students will explore a variety of authentic material, such as their own compositions, newspapers, magazines, letters and manuals.  Students will learn in a natural manner and in a non-threatening environment where they will be encouraged to actively participate in their own learning processes.  Teachers will plan lessons that address the students’ preferred learning style, as well as their various interests, needs and academic levels.  Since computer literacy is an essential skill in today’s workplace, computer instruction will be integrated into the ABE III and Pre-GED Preparation components.
